Position Title Catering Lead
General Description

Oversee and direct function sheet, floor plan and supervisory directions, the Catering Wait Staff assists with the set-up of College events; serves food and clears tables at College events; and assists with maintaining catering supplies and equipment. Provides the highest quality of service to customers at all times.

Essential Functions

•Ability to read and understand a catering event sheet.
•Ability to prioritize and organize daily events to allow time to pull, pack, load, transport, setup, service and cleanup catering events.
•Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with catering leads, catering staff and Malott Commons staff to produce positive results for both inside and outside events.
•Knowledge of multiple types of catering setups, table arrangements and table décor for all types of events.
•Knowledge and experience in delivering excellent customer service to catering clients and guests at all times.
•Understand and utilize a “pull sheet” to pack catering materials, including food and equipment. Load, transport and unload catering materials, using handcarts, electrical carts and/or motorized vehicles.
•Serve and remove plates, glasses, silverware and other event equipment as needed or directed by contract.
•Perform light scullery duties, which includes scraping plates, sorting dishes and removing trash.
•Clean up after events, including distributing linen, soiled dishes, clean dishes, décor, etc. to appropriate locations.
•Inventory plates, cups, silverware, pans, pots, bowls, décor, etc., as directed.
•Assist in the kitchen as needed.
•Participate in training sessions as provided by the College. Assist with the training of other staff members as appropriate.
•Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.
•Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

This individual must possess the knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

•Excellent communication skills-both written and oral-for supervisory duties and customer service.
•Knowledge of safe working methods and procedures, including safe practices in delivering and serving food.
•Knowledge of different types of catering set-ups and food displays. Knowledge of different types of place setting styles for tables and catering equipment.
•Ability to follow Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HAACP) guidelines, (ServSafe), and Personal Protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Ensure compliance by staff with safety rules and regulations, proper use of personal safety equipment, food preparation equipment and cleaning compounds.
•Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, and lift boxes and break down up to 30 pounds without assistance. Must be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time.
•Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
•Ability and willingness to work a rotating schedule as needed. Ability and willingness to work overtime, including weekends and holidays as needed.
•Ability to provide the highest quality of service to customers at all times.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

Valid California Motor Vehicle License.

Current California Food Handler’s Card.

Classification and Status

This is a temporary, full-time, 9 month, non-exempt level position. Benefits-eligible.

This position is for the academic year 2017-2018.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises Catering workers and staff.

Physical Requirements

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans.

Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages
