Position Title Utility Maintenance Mechanic
General Description

Under general direction, inspects tests, adjusts, repairs and cleans minor mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

Essential Functions

•Completes repair work order requests as assigned.
•Tighten and adjust door closures, window locks, repair screens, drape cords,
towel racks and shower doors.
•Repair minor electrical units, such as emergency lights, alarms, vacuum cleaners,
exhaust fans, wall and desk lights.
•Replace burned out light bulbs and fluorescent fixtures.
•Open clogged toilets and drains and repair leaking plumbing fixtures.
•Report all problems which require specialty shop attention.
•Do minor carpentry such as installing and repairing doors, cabinets and furniture.
•Do minor painting and water seal of buildings.
•Participates in emergency response activities.
•Must wear a two-way radio or cell phone during the performance of duties.
•Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position.
•Change air filters and belts.
•Adjust or diagnose thermostats and settings.
•Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
•Must possess knowledge of electrical, plumbing, painting, and mechanical systems.
•Ability to understand written and oral instructions in English.
•Must possess knowledge of safe operation and use of tools and equipment,
working methods and procedures.
•Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, and lift up to 50 lbs. from ground to waist level without assistance, climb ladders up to 20 feet with assistance and up to 10 feet unassisted, and able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time.
•Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative relationships.
•Must be able to drive.
•Must recognize limitations of time and skill to request assistance.
•Must wear uniforms and safety equipment as required.
•Must be able to do basic arithmetic computations.

Qualifications & Standards

High school graduation or equivalent. Three to five years related experience. Experience in private or public educational facility preferred.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

Must have drivers license and a driving record acceptable to the college’s automobile insurer.

Classification and Status

This is a regular, full-time, 12 months, non-exempt level position. Benefits-eligible. Employees in the Maintenance department will be issued and must wear uniforms while performing the job.

The scheduled hours for this position are Monday-Friday 7:45 am-4:30 pm.

Position requires employee to work some weekends and special events as required by the College.

Supervisory Responsibility

None.

Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans.

Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 50 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages
